Mailbox Spring Cleaning!
If you are like me, you tend to let your e-mails accumulate in your Inbox. Eventually Outlook starts to run more slowly and you have a harder time finding e-mails due to the clutter. Fortunately help is on the way from How To Outlook:
NEW Contacts Scrubber 4.0TeamScope is proud to announce the official release of Contacts Scrubber 4.0 which includes the following new features:
You can download the new release of
Contacts Scrubber for Outlook by filling in this form: Running Multiple Copies of Outlook
Have you ever wanted to have more than one copy of Outlook open at the same time? Maybe one to access your Exchange server for business while another accessing your personal POP3 account? If so, you are not alone and you can do this with Extra Outlook, a free tool that allows you to open several instances of Outlook at the same time, each running on a different Outlook Profile. We have had some intermittent issues with this web site, so we have posted a copy of the ExtraOutlook.zip in our download area. Once you download ExtraOutlook.zip and copy the EXE file to the directory of your choice, you just need to run it using a command line like this:
ExtraOutlook.exe "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\OUTLOOK.EXE"
This will work for Office 2007, but you will need to use this command line for Office 2003:
ExtraOutlook.exe "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\OUTLOOK.EXE"
While we have successfully used this tool for several months, it is not without its problems and you should be aware of them before trying to use ExtraOutlook. One issue you may run into, described here in more detail, involves Outlook add-ins which can become confused. You also will want to be careful when sending an e-mail so you do not confuse the different instances of Outlook since you might send a business e-mail from your personal e-mail account and vice verse. In any case, please use this tool at your own risk since TeamScope has not tested it thoroughly, but it is so valuable when you do need it that we thought we should mention it.
One last thing, you can also find out more about the technical details here.
Uninstalling Outlook 2010Many of you may be trying out the beta release of Outlook 2010 but may find that you need to uninstall it and return to an earlier release of Outlook. Unfortunately the steps are not straight forward for doing this, but it turns out the folks at Microsoft have provided detailed instructions for removing Outlook 2007 and these steps appear to work for Outlook 2010 as well: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us Remote Access using TeamViewer and TightVNC
If the commercial use price of TeamViewer is more than you can afford, TightVNC is a well known and highly recommended product plus it is FREE. See the recent PC Magazine The Best Free Software of 2010 for more details. Note that unlike TeamViewer and LogMeIn you will have to configure your firewall and router to use TightVNC and in our testing it runs a bit slower than TeamViewer and Windows Remote Desktop.
Going a bit gadget crazy
Sansa Clip +4GB MP3 Player
Kensington 16GB Multi-kit/Mobility Kit To go with my new Sansa Clip player I went all out and purchased this 16GB microSD chip with the various adapters so that I can load music directly to the chip from my laptop or desktop. For a total of $100, why not have all the music you have ever purchased plus plenty of room to download audio books, podcasts and music you download from YouTube, etc.?
I had been thinking about getting one of these super small HD video cameras for awhile, but thought they were a bit pricey. While the normal price for this camera is about $150, occasionally Tech For Less offers daily specials and I was able to get this camera for $99. Now I check the site everyday to see if there is a real good deal like this.
