Microsoft
NetMeeting (
www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting) is a
simple, free utility that provides a remote desktop
viewing and control capability. TeamScope Technical Support
often uses NetMeeting as a tool to help us quickly
and effectively solve issues that may arise on your system.
For this reason, we strongly encourage that you take a moment to
familiarize yourself with this tool before contacting TeamScope
Technical Support.

- Allows us to "look over your shoulder" by seeing your computer
screen, thus helping to understand and fix issues you may be
having.
- Allows us to even take control of your system if necessary for
complex operations.
- Fast and easy no-cost setup -- NetMeeting is usually already
installed on your system by default.
- Very reliable and easy to use.
________________________________________________________________
NetMeeting is already installed and ready to run on all recent
versions of Windows:
- Windows 98 - Late models should have it
already. Earlier versions may need to download it from: www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting/download/nm301x86.asp
- Windows 2000 - From the Start >
Programs > Accessories > Communications menu, select
NetMeeting.
- Windows XP - Launch NetMeeting by going to the
Start > Run command box and then typing
in conf .

When you start NetMeeting for the first time on your computer, it
will ask you a few basic questions. This is a one-time
initialization that only takes a minute to complete. Here are some
tips when going through this initial setup:
- Name, E-mail Address, and Location - Enter the appropriate
values.
- Directory Server is not needed, so you should set the
checkboxes as follows:
- - Uncheck "Logon to a directory server"
- - Check "Don't list my name in the directory"
- Speed of network - Select a value you think is appropriate.
This setting is not critical.
- Shortcut to Desktop - Your choice.
- Sound and Video - We don't need either of these functions, so
just bypass these.
________________________________________________________________
- We will host the NetMeeting session, so your company typically
will not need to change any security on your firewall.
- The address to enter to initiate the call is:
mail.teamscope.com, and then press the "Place Call" button.
- We do not leave the connection port open on our side, so you
must contact us first via phone: (818) 876-0776 x2.
- If possible, please have NetMeeting set up on your system
before contacting us, so that we may make the most efficient use of
your and our time.
In rare cases, your network firewall may be
restricting both incoming and outgoing access to the required port
1503, and thus NetMeeting cannot be used. If this is the case with
your company, you may want to discuss this with your network
administrator. Only outbound (request) access is necessary as
TeamScope is acting as the host. Also, if you are running a
personal (software) firewall such as the one that comes with
Windows XP or products like ZoneAlarm, you will need to temporarily
disable them to allow NetMeeting to operate.

- Once you have contacted TeamScope and are connected via
NetMeeting, you will then be asked to "share your desktop". To do
this, press the "Share Program" button in the lower left corner of
the NetMeeting window, then select "Desktop", then press the
"Share" button.
- There are times that it may be easier for TeamScope support to
actually perform certain functions directly for you on your
computer. To allow this, you must select "Allow Control" and then
check the "Automatically accept requests for control" checkbox on
the same sharing window.
- Please understand that when you share your computer with
TeamScope, we can view your desktop. If you have information that
you don't want us to see, then please be sure to close it.
________________________________________________________________
Once the support session is complete, we will disconnect the
NetMeeting session and you can turn off NetMeeting. Because you are
the party that initiates the connection, there is no way that we
can connect back to your system without you initiating it again.
For security reasons, it is important that your firewall does not
allow inbound NetMeeting requests (port 1503) from us or any other
system.
